OUR STORY

It Started with One Little Cake

How a mother's idea in her own kitchen became the rolling pins 250,000+ home bakers use today.

Me and my two children, today

My name is Karolina. I am a mother of two, and like many of you, my kitchen is the heart of my home. It is where I bake for the people I love.

When my eldest daughter was born, my husband and I wanted to make her something no shop could sell us. We decorated her first cake with her name and tiny hearts. When I saw that pattern, I had an idea: what if every cookie could feel this special?

2015

So we made our very first rolling pins. I rolled one over my dough, baked the cookies, and watched the pattern come out of the oven, clear and beautiful. My family could not believe it.

Then friends asked for one. Then friends of friends. Our very first custom rolling pin was a request from a friend in London. She wanted her city on it, so we engraved London all around the pin.

We engraved every pin ourselves, and packed every order by hand, one box at a time.

A customer travelled all the way from Canada and came to meet me in Warsaw. I will never forget that day. A rolling pin made in my little workshop had brought two women together from the other side of the world.

And the little girl the very first rolling pin was made for? She was there from the start, choosing her favourite designs.

And her little brother? He put on his chef's hat and became my little helper in the kitchen.

Made by women, for women who bake

Our team in the workshop, today

Pastrymade is a small team of women in Poland. Each rolling pin starts in the hands of local women artisans, who shape the wooden pins for us. Then our team engraves and finishes every one of them in our workshop. Many of us are mothers, grandmothers and home bakers too. And my daughter? Today, she helps me in the workshop.

When you buy from us, you are not buying from a factory. You are supporting local women and their families, and keeping a beautiful tradition alive.

Since 2015, more than 250,000 home bakers have baked with our rolling pins. I still read your messages and look at the photos of your cookies.Every one of them reminds me why I started.— Karolina
